Caring for Your New Glasses: How to Keep Them Looking Sharp for Years
You wouldn’t buy a new car and never wash it — so why treat your new glasses any differently?
Your eyewear works hard for you every single day, and with a little care, it can keep looking and performing like new for years to come.
At Conways, we don’t just help you see better — we help you protect your investment. Here are our expert eyewear care tips to keep your glasses in top condition for as long as possible. Because we care.
Cleaning Your Glasses: The Basics
Regular cleaning is an absolute must. Think of it like brushing your teeth — small daily habits make a big difference over time.
1. Use the Right Cloth
Never clean your lenses with paper towels, tissues, or your clothing. These materials have textured surfaces that can easily scratch your lenses.
Instead, always use a microfibre cloth. Check your glasses case — you should already have one tucked inside.
2. Use Proper Lens Cleaner
Lens cleaners are specially designed for eyewear and are an essential part of your care kit. Avoid dry wiping, as dust or debris can scratch the lenses when rubbed.
Never use bleach, vinegar, household cleaners, spit, or other chemicals — these can damage or strip away protective lens coatings.
3. Don’t Forget the Nose Pads
Nose pads absorb dirt, dust, and natural oils, so regular cleaning is important. If you feel they could use a refresh, pop into the practice anytime — we’re happy to clean them for you, completely free.

4. Put Them On (and Take Them Off) the Right Way
Always use both hands. Using one hand can gradually misalign the frame, affecting the fit — and ultimately your vision.
5. Don’t Wear Them on Your Head
Resting glasses on your head stretches the frame and is one of the most common causes of poor fit over time.
6. Store Them Safely
When you’re not wearing your glasses, store them snugly in their case.
Never place them lens-down on a surface, toss them into bags or pockets, or leave them on hot surfaces like a car dashboard — heat can warp frames and damage lenses.
